Western Power said the March outage was caused by arcing of insulators which was triggered by “unusual weather conditions in the Kalbarri region”.
“Because the outages were a result of weather conditions, and outside of Western Power’s control, the company is unable to pay compensation for customers’ losses.
“The outages in Kalbarri were caused by arcing on insulators due to weather conditions and deemed to be beyond Western Power’s control,” he said.
“I understand that many businesses and residents suffered significant losses during these outages and I have made this clear to Western Power”.
In a statement, Western Power spokesman Michael Crevola said the utility did not act outside of accepted industry standards and could not accept liability for the outages in March.
