“The Minister needs to front up and explain what happened and why it is that Rod Stowe’s been sacked when he’s been the most active head of Fair Trading that I can ever remember”.
A spokeswoman for Fair Trading Minister Matthew Mason-Cox said he had received advice from the state’s Office of Finance and Services, which administers Fair Trading, that Mr Stowe was on leave.
He has been at the forefront of a media campaign urging people not to buy USB chargers that do not meet Australian standards after a faulty charger electrocuted a woman on the NSW Central Coast in April.
The New South Wales Opposition says the Baird Government needs to explain why it has sacked the state’s consumer watchdog boss.
