Online sales accounted for 2. 6 per cent of overall Australian retail figures in May, the highest proportion since records began in March last year.
The figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) show retail sales fell 0. 3 per cent in WA in May, seasonally adjusted.
West Australians are reluctant to spend, according to new figures that show retail sales recording their biggest ongoing fall in the state in more than three decades.
While no figures were available for WA, nationally online retail sales rose 10. 6 per cent in May.
Nationally, retail sales fell by 0. 5 per cent in May on a seasonally adjusted basis, following a 0. 1 per cent fall in April.
The figures cover a wide range of retail areas including clothing and footwear, food, household goods, department stores, cafes, restaurants and takeaway food.
