“Australia has been very actively engaged in the WTO in trying to strike multilateral deals throughout because Australia is a trading nation, it is one of the biggest trading nations in the world. liberalisation in bilateral or regional deals alone, you do need the multilateral system to complement that”.
The head of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has called for a refocus on global trade talks, as business representatives urge leaders to deliver on negotiations at the November G20 meeting in Australia.
Mr Azev√™do says bilateral trade agreements, such as the deal recently signed between Japan and Australia, will “complement” a global trade deal.
