ADM profit more than doubles in Q2

Excluding items, earnings rose to US77 cents a share from US46 cents. Revenue decreased 4. 6 per cent to $US21. 5 billion.

In February, the company said it was planning "aggressive" steps to improve its grain-trading division after the unit contributed to a 27 per cent decline in its fourth-quarter earnings.

For the period ended June 30, ADM reported a profit of $US533 million, or 81 cents a share, compared with $US223 million, orUS 34 cents a share, a year earlier.
