A Tasmanian group says it has rallied leading rock climbers from around the world to fight against a cable car on Hobart’s Mount Wellington.
Club member Stu Scott said world famous climbers including Sir Christian Bonington were taking up the fight against the development, which would include a visitors’ centre at the summit.
It warned climbers from around the world were ready to oppose the development, and the planned changes to the mountain management scheme to enable it.
Opponents of the cable car claimed they had leaked documents showing one of the support towers for the project would be 75 metres tall, higher than the 73-metre Wrest Point Casino.
