Crude oil prices lift slightly

Brent crude oil prices are still soft and it is "merely a matter of time" before they break below the $US100 a barrel floor, according to David Hufton of brokerage PVM in London.

Declining prices of both contracts have seen the "spread", or price difference between the two benchmarks, widen to over $US9 a barrel, the largest gap since mid-April.
