Investor bet on BHP buoys market

Sonic Healthcare saw profit jump 14. 9 per cent to $385 million in the 12 months to the end of June, buoyed by strong performance in Australia and Europe, but dragged below analyst expectations by fee cuts in its US business. Sonic shares dropped 1. 1 per cent to $17. 62.

Packaging company Amcor delivered a 24. 6 per cent jump in underlying profit, buoyed by growth in emerging markets. Amcor shares rose 4. 6 per cent to $10. 75.

Insurance Australia Group saw its profits jump 59 per cent as lower claims lifted the insurance provider to its biggest profit in more than a decade. IAG shares finished 0. 5 per cent higher at $6. 29.
