A new Diversity Council Australia report has found that although almost 10 per cent of the Australian workforce is Asian-born, less than two per cent of senior executives in ASX 200 companies have Asian origins.
Diversity Council Australia says there are a number of barriers blocking Asian talent in Australian organisations including cultural bias and “westernised” leadership models.
Ms Annese says that, given the huge amount of trade Australia does with Asia, itâ€™s hard to understand why companies arenâ€™t embracing Asian leaders.
Diversity Council Australia surveyed more than 300 leaders and emerging leaders from Asian cultural backgrounds at more than 100 Australian organisations.
There are calls for Australian companies to employ far more senior executives with Asian cultural origins to help improve corporate performance.
