Petrol retailers confident they will defeat ACCC lawsuit

The competition watchdog is taking legal action against the group Informed Sources, which operates a service that lets petrol stations compare their prices, as well as five major petrol retailers that use the service - BP, Caltex, Eureka Operations (which operates Coles Express), Woolworths and 7-Eleven.

The regulator alleges that the service effectively allows service stations to flag price increases with each other, thus reducing competitive pressure and probably raising petrol prices above where they would otherwise be.
