WA miners unite to fight gold royalties rise

Budget forward estimates showed the WA Government expected to bank an extra $180 million from the mining industry in the 2015/16 financial year, and has made no assurances to the gold sector that it would not be a part of boosting the state coffers.

Gold miners have warned their industry, which employs more than 25,000 people, may be under threat if the West Australian Government goes ahead with an increase in the gold royalty rate.

The GRRG reformed 12 months ago after the State Government announced it was reviewing gold royalty rates.
