Dispute halts Flinders Island freight service

Photo: Furneaux Freight will cease its regular service to Flinders Island after a dispute with TasPorts.

“Furneaux Freight has notified TasPorts that it is unwilling the rectify the issues that have been identified and that it will terminate its Stevedore Licence Agreement for the management of the Port of Lady Barron.

“The Government is advised that the dispute is in relation to non-conformances identified through audits into safety and dangerous goods handling that were ordered by TasPorts at Lady Barron Port,” he said in a statement.

Flinders Island will be without its regular freight service within three weeks because of a commercial dispute.

It is understood Furneaux Freight is in a commercial dispute with TasPorts, which operates the Port of Lady Barron.

Furneaux Freight operates the only regular shipping service to Flinders Island.

On Thursday the Infrastructure Minister, Rene Hidding, will meet Flinders Island Mayor Carol Cox, representatives of TasPorts, and State Growth department bureaucrats to chart a solution.
