Tag Pacific joins Rio Tinto solar project

By John Conroy

Tag will join First Solar in building the first stage of the ARENA-supported project 1. 7 megawatt solar PV project, which will serve the remote Weipa bauxite mining operation and associated town. "By picking up this construction role we have cemented an important first step in the delivery of large-scale solar power projects for the mining sector," Tag's CEO Nathan Wise said, according to Australian Mining.

Tag's MPower business – which provides power systems for critical applications – will join the project, Proactive Investors says, with Tag’s involvement coming after it acquired parts of solar firm Ingenero, which went into receivership in July.

Tag is seeking to expand its large scale solar development activities, the website says, with Mr Wise saying that "the Weipa project demonstrates its capability to integrate renewable energy into remote off-grid power stations".
