Tabcorp takes $19m earnings hit on pokies judgement

The ruling follows a Supreme Court win for Tatts last week, in which it was awarded $540 million in compensation from the Victorian government, following the loss of a duopoly on gaming machines outside Crown Casino.

Tabcorp, which had ceased operating gaming machines in the state in August 2012, said it would consider the judgement before deciding whether to appeal to the High Court of Australia.

In a judgement handed down today, the Court of Appeal ruled health benefit levies on Tabcorp’s former gaming machine operations in the state would stand for the 2013 financial year.

Tabcorp will take a $19 million hit to full-year earnings after the Victorian government succeeded in its court appeal over payments contested by the group.
